In this episode of the Oliver Wyman Velocity Podcast, join Geoff Murray, Partner and Jeff Green, Engagement Manager as they discuss how the decisions airlines are making now; such as how many pilots to staff, how many to furlough and what type of aircraft to fly, can have important consequences for training demand later on. Something which we are calling the ‘pilot training bubble.’

The current economic challenges are not only likely to be more severe and protracted than previous downturns, but unique, in that it will significantly stress training infrastructure. The unprecedented nature of the crisis – and eventual recovery – could create a demand for pilot training that outstrips capacity in several ways, this latest episode delves deeper into industry challenges and offers solutions.

As airlines look toward recovery, managing pilot training demand and capacity must be a priority. Flight operations departments would do well to ’mind the training bubble’ and start planning ahead, to help carriers emerge from the crisis more quickly.

In this episode of the Oliver Wyman Velocity Podcast join Anthony DiNota, Oliver Wyman CAVOK Vice President and Matt Riley, Oliver Wyman CAVOK Senior Manager as they take a closer look at how the use of drones in our air spaces can overcome some of the challenges faced by Covid-19.

A majority of the world’s population is now in social isolation and some countries have imposed a total or partial lockdown, new challenges and disruptions have been faced by many in their day-to-day lives. With many now permitted to shop for only food or medical supplies and all non-essential items and travel have been restricted or banned.

The concept of drone deliveries has been around for a while with many e-commerce giants showing an interest; however, as the pandemic deepens it has become strikingly clear there is a need for vital equipment and supplies to be delivered whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines.

But how close are we to being able to fully utilise our logistic aviation landscape? How soon can we expect flying drone deliveries to become a reality? There are several hurdles that the industry needs to overcome, whether it be the regularity rules and conduct or the public perception and acceptance.

The toys of yesterday are the taxis of tomorrow. As we fly towards the future of urban air mobility, a space where the industry is currently on the leading edge of transformation, moving from what was once theory to today's reality.

In this episode of the Oliver Wyman Velocity Podcast, join CAVOK’s David Marcontell, Senior Vice President & General Manager and Steven Douglas, Vice President, as they explore the issues facing the regulatory landscape, take a closer look at the current use of drones and discuss when flying taxis will become an everyday reality.

“It's an interesting drone. The inside is 4x4 and it carries packages. It lands, delivers and people can pick up their packages from this drone.”

Drones are already proving to be huge logistical problem-solvers in less populated areas, read our latest insight on how drones have transitioned from a toy to the new face of future transport.
